Junior Members
Toolangi Fire Brigade has a very strong and vibrant Junior Fire Brigade that re-commenced in 2014; which runs fortnightly on a Saturday morning, in line with the school terms each year.
Our years training is full of fire safety education and modified firefighting activities, for the juniors to learn what it means to be a firefighter. We also focus on team building, practical skills, fundraising, first aid, community service, sporting activities and social excursions. Every year we plan a few excursions, which in the past has seen us attend Victorian Emergency Management Training Campus’, visit CFAs larger stations such as Dandenong Fire Station, a visit to MFBs marine response at Docklands, and try our hand at go-carting and laser tag.
Since 2014, we have been lucky enough to have as many as 25 junior members at any one time, made up of young people from the local and surrounding community. To date, we have successfully seen 8 of our junior members all move up to become senior members. This is a great achievement for the brigade, but also for the 8 members themselves. We are very proud of what they have achieved, and how we continue to see them grow across our brigades and communities.
The brigade has 8 qualified and endorsed Junior Leaders, who have the responsibility of looking after our Junior members. This is supported by the wider brigade membership and parents. We have profiles of our Junior Leaders on Toolangi Fire Brigade’s Facebook page, please stop by, like our page and have a read of the members contributing their time to this great program: https://www.facebook.com/Toolangi-Fire-Brigade-567251093328185/
If you have someone interested, aged between 11-15 years old, they can join CFA through the Junior Volunteer Development Program. There is no cost to join and most activities are free. Each member is fitted with a hat, polo shirt, and personal protective gear when participating in the program. When juniors turn 16 they can apply to become senior members of the brigade. We train fortnightly during school terms, on a Saturday morning between the hours of 9-11am. We would love to have more junior members join the brigade and come have some fun with us.
